Two Days Well Spent in Charleston, SC
Visiting the East Coast has long been one of my bucket list items. I am so glad that the first time I was able to step into the chilly waters of the Atlantic Ocean was in such a beautiful and iconic city. Though our trip lasted but a few days, I was so moved by all the things the city had to offer.
Here are the top places we visited during our quick trip to “The Holy City”!
Magnolia Plantations and Gardens
Magnolia Plantations was our first “tourist attraction” in the city. We spent the morning walking along the many trails around this estate, learning about the complicated history of the former plantation and marveling at the beauty of the many plants and animals that were found on the land.
If given the opportunity to visit this historical plantation, I would strongly recommend taking one of the many historical tours offered by the staff. We took the house tour and were able to listen to the entire history of the plantation including its role in the Civil War. They also provide tours of the former slave quarters to help people better understand the history of the slave labor at this former rice plantation.
Downtown Charleston
We spent an entire day walking around the gorgeous streets of Charleston. The remarkable architecture often took my breath away. Between the shopping, eating, and drinking options available, you are sure to find something to tickle your fancy!
Sullivan’s Island
As a true beach girly, Sullivan’s Island was by far my favorite spot in Charleston! We stopped by right as the sun was beginning to set below the horizon and the scenery took my breath away. This was also the first time I saw the Atlantic Ocean and I believe the wait was well worth it!
Angel Oak Tree
Visiting the Angel Oak tree was not at the top of our to-do list but we were glad we were able to squeeze in a quick visit. This tree is massive and such a beautiful statement of nature. If you have time and are in the area, I recommend taking some time to marvel at this massive, historical Angel Oak Tree. (PS- this is also the perfect spot for a quick picnic!)
Folly Beach Pier
Our second beach visit was to the well-known Folly Beach Pier! Though we didn’t have time to walk along the beach, we watched the sunset from the Pier and had so much fun looking for fish and turtles in the waters below!
Honorable Mentions!
Nightly Ghost Tour
The nighttime ghost tour was actually the very first thing we did upon arriving to Charleston! and boy, what a fitting way to start our trip! whether you believe in ghosts or not, the ghost tour was a perfect introduction to learning about the rich and complicated history of Charleston, SC.
Shem Creek
We stopped by Saltwater Cowboys for an early dinner before heading to the beaches of Sullivans Island and we were so impressed! Dining along Shem Creek was one of the highlights of the whole trip. The atmosphere was incredible and we enjoyed watching the boats ride along the creek while enjoying our yummy food!
All in all, this quick trip holds such a special place in my heart! This was the first trip I had ever planned on my own and I was so proud of all the things we were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time.
Charleston, we’ll be back to visit again soon!
